Park the vehicle on a flat surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
Open the hood and locate the car battery, usually near the front of the engine bay.
Put on protective gloves and safety glasses before handling the battery.
Identify the negative terminal, usually marked with a minus sign or black cable.
Use a wrench to loosen and disconnect the negative terminal first to prevent short circuits.
Loosen and disconnect the positive terminal, marked with a plus sign or red cable.
Check for any battery hold-downs or brackets and remove them using a wrench or socket.
Carefully lift the old battery straight up and out of the tray; it may be heavy.
Inspect the battery tray for corrosion or debris and clean it if necessary.
Use a wire brush or terminal cleaner to clean the battery cable ends.
Place the new battery into the tray, aligning the terminals as before.
Reconnect the positive terminal first and tighten it securely.
Reconnect the negative terminal and tighten it securely.
Apply battery terminal protector if desired to reduce corrosion.
Reinstall any battery hold-downs or brackets to secure the battery in place.
Double-check all connections for tightness and proper placement.
Ensure no tools or debris are left in the engine bay.
Close the hood securely.
Start the car to verify the new battery is functioning properly.
Dispose of the old battery at an authorized recycling center.
