Pull over to a flat, stable, and safe location away from traffic. Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers of your situation. Engage the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Place wheel wedges in front of or behind the tires opposite the flat. Retrieve the spare tire, jack, and lug wrench from your vehicle. Use the lug wrench to slightly loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire. Locate the jack point near the flat tire and position the jack securely. Raise the vehicle with the jack until the flat tire is off the ground. Fully remove the loosened lug nuts and set them aside safely. Carefully remove the flat tire and place it flat on the ground. Align the spare tire with the lug bolts and slide it onto the hub. Hand-tighten the lug nuts onto the spare tire in a star pattern. Lower the vehicle slowly using the jack until the tire touches the ground. Remove the jack completely once the vehicle is stable on the ground. Use the lug wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Torque the lug nuts to manufacturer specification if a torque wrench is available. Check the spare tire’s pressure using a tire pressure gauge. Place the flat tire and tools back into your vehicle securely. Remove the wheel wedges and disengage the parking brake. Drive cautiously to a tire repair shop to replace or repair the flat.
