Use scissors carefully to avoid injury., Ensure reeds are soaked properly to prevent breakage.
Soak the basket weaving reeds in water for about 30 minutes to make them pliable. Cut the base spokes to the desired length using scissors, ensuring they are all equal. Arrange the spokes in a cross pattern, with equal numbers on each side, to form the basket base. Begin weaving the base by interlacing a long reed over and under the spokes, pulling it tight. Turn up the spokes gently to start forming the sides of the basket, ensuring they are evenly spaced. Continue weaving the sides by interlacing the reed over and under the upright spokes, maintaining tension. Add rim filler by tucking it under the top row of weaving to create a smooth edge. Attach the basket handle by securing it to the rim with additional reed, ensuring it is stable. Finish the basket by weaving a final rim, tucking in all loose ends securely.
