Scissors, Ruler, Fabric marker or chalk, Straight pins (optional)
Use sharp scissors carefully to avoid injury., Keep fingers away from cutting edges., Work on a clean, flat surface to prevent slipping., Dispose of fabric scraps properly to avoid tripping hazards.
Select a clean, old t-shirt large enough to cover your throw pillow. Lay the t-shirt flat on a clean surface with no wrinkles. Place the throw pillow in the center of the shirt to measure coverage. Use a ruler and fabric marker to outline a square around the pillow, leaving at least 2 inches extra on all sides. Cut through both the front and back layers of the shirt along the outline. Cut 1-inch wide fringe strips around all four edges, about 2 inches deep. Remove the pillow and begin tying the top and bottom fringe strips together in double knots on three sides. Insert the pillow into the cover through the open side. Tie the remaining fringe strips on the final side to seal the pillow inside. Adjust the knots to ensure they are tight and evenly spaced. Trim any uneven fringe ends for a cleaner look. Fluff the pillow to distribute the fabric evenly. Check all knots to ensure they are secure and won’t come undone. If desired, use straight pins to hold fabric in place before tying. Avoid stretching the t-shirt fabric too much while cutting. Use sharp scissors to ensure clean cuts and prevent fraying. Ensure your work surface is clean to avoid staining the fabric. Keep fingers clear of scissors while cutting to avoid injury. Store leftover fabric scraps for future crafts or discard responsibly. Display your new pillow cover and enjoy your upcycled decor.
