Screwdriver, Voltage tester, Wire stripper, Ladder
Always turn off power at the breaker before working with electrical fixtures., Use a voltage tester to confirm wires are not live., Use a stable ladder and avoid overreaching., Do not install fixtures with damaged wires or cracked insulation.
Turn off the circuit breaker that controls the light fixture to ensure safety. Use a voltage tester to confirm the power is off at the fixture wires. Climb a stable ladder and remove the old fixture’s cover or globe. Unscrew the mounting screws and gently pull the old fixture away from the ceiling. Carefully disconnect the fixture wires by unscrewing the wire nuts. Inspect the electrical box and wires for damage or wear before proceeding. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the wire ends if needed using a wire stripper. Match the new fixture wires to the ceiling wires: black to black, white to white, ground to ground. Twist wires together securely and cap with wire nuts; wrap with electrical tape for extra security. Tuck the wires neatly into the electrical box without pinching or crimping. Align the new fixture’s mounting bracket and secure it to the electrical box. Attach the new fixture base to the bracket using the provided screws. Install the light bulbs recommended for the fixture. Attach the fixture cover, globe, or shade as directed by the manufacturer. Double-check that all screws and connections are tight and secure. Restore power at the breaker panel. Flip the wall switch to test the new light fixture. If the fixture does not work, turn off power and recheck wire connections. Clean the fixture surface and bulbs with a dry cloth if needed. Dispose of the old fixture and packaging materials properly.
