Drill, Circular saw, Measuring tape, Level, Screwdriver, Clamps, Pencil, Safety goggles
Always wear safety goggles when cutting or drilling wood., Use clamps to secure wood while cutting to prevent movement., Ensure your work area is well-ventilated when using paint or stain., Keep fingers clear of saw blades and drill bits at all times., Secure bookshelf to wall to prevent tipping, especially in homes with children.
Measure and mark all wood pieces according to your bookshelf dimensions using a measuring tape and pencil. Cut the wood pieces to size using a circular saw, wearing safety goggles during cutting. Sand all wood surfaces and edges thoroughly to remove splinters and rough spots. Lay out the side panels and bottom shelf to form a basic frame and check alignment. Apply wood glue to joints and clamp the frame together to hold it in place. Drill pilot holes and drive screws through the sides into the bottom shelf to secure the frame. Repeat the process to attach the top panel and any additional shelves at desired heights. Use a level to ensure all shelves are straight and adjust as needed before final tightening. Fill any screw holes or gaps with wood filler and allow it to dry completely. Sand the filled areas smooth to blend with the rest of the surface. Apply primer if painting, or proceed directly to staining if using wood stain. Let the primer or stain dry according to the product instructions before applying additional coats. Apply paint or a second coat of stain evenly across all surfaces and allow to dry. Inspect the finish and touch up any missed spots or uneven areas. Allow the bookshelf to dry completely in a well-ventilated area before moving. Carefully move the bookshelf to its final location using proper lifting technique. Check that the bookshelf sits level on the floor and adjust with shims if necessary. Secure the bookshelf to the wall with brackets or anti-tip hardware if needed for safety. Wipe down the bookshelf to remove any dust or debris before use. Arrange books and items on the shelves, distributing weight evenly.
